Ketu in the 12th House
Ketu (Ketu) is the shadow of release — detachment, mastery already carried, and disinterest. The 12th house (Vyaya bhāva) governs loss and expenditure, foreign lands, seclusion, sleep and liberation.
What the classical reading says
Ketu in the 12th house is one of the few placements the classical texts treat as spiritually auspicious without qualification. The 12th is vyaya bhāva — loss, expenditure, seclusion, foreign lands, sleep and mokṣa — and Ketu is the graha of detachment and release. A significator of liberation sitting in the house of liberation is a rare alignment of purpose.
In ordinary life it tends to show as a genuine indifference to accumulation, comfort in solitude that others find strange, and a pull toward retreat, meditation or contemplative practice that appears early and does not really go away. Time spent abroad or living apart from one's birthplace is frequently reported, the 12th being the house of distant places.
The same detachment has a cost in the material register. The 12th governs expenditure, and Ketu there can mean money leaves without a clear account of where — not through extravagance so much as through disinterest in tracking it. Sleep and dreams are often unusually vivid or unusually disturbed.
This is also a placement where the Rahu–Ketu axis matters especially: with Ketu in the 12th, Rahu sits in the 6th, giving unusual capacity to fight, serve and outlast opposition. The two must be read together, and the daśā determines which end of the axis is currently speaking.
What it does not mean
It does not mean poverty, hospitalisation or isolation as a fate. The 12th house's reputation as a house of loss frightens people unnecessarily — with Ketu here the classical emphasis is on release and spiritual progress, not on deprivation.
