Cat's Eye, and the graha it serves
Cat's eye, lehsunia, is the stone of Ketu — the south lunar node, the shadow of release, detachment and mastery already carried. It is the least commonly worn of the Navaratna, which is appropriate: Ketu's business is letting go, and the number of people who genuinely need that amplified is small.
Traditionally it is prescribed during a Ketu daśā or antardaśā, or where Ketu sits prominently and its detachment has become obstruction rather than freedom — sudden reversals, a loss of appetite for things that used to matter, or spiritual restlessness that has stopped being productive.
Like Rahu, Ketu is a shadow graha owning no sign, so lehsunia is period-specific rather than a lifelong support. The classical texts are notably more reserved about it than about the seven planetary stones, and that reserve is worth honouring rather than talking past.
The genuine stone is chrysoberyl, showing a sharp single band of light across the dome — the chatoyancy that gives it the name. Quartz and fibre-optic glass imitations are extremely common and the band in an imitation is usually too broad and too even.
How it is traditionally worn
Traditionally set in silver or panchdhatu and worn on the middle finger of the right hand, first on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening. Almost always recommended for a defined period rather than indefinitely.
Who should be careful
This is the stone to be slowest about. Ketu amplifies detachment, and most people arriving at a gemstone are looking for engagement with life rather than release from it. The classical sources are more reserved about lehsunia than about any other of the nine. It is also among the most imitated — genuine chrysoberyl shows a narrow, sharp band of light; a broad even stripe is usually glass or quartz.
