Red Coral (Moonga)
Mars's stone — courage and drive, and the one most often sold on the back of manglik fear.
We do not sell gemstones. Astro Ratan reads your chart and tells you whether a stone is indicated — including, often, that it is not. There is nothing here to buy and no shop to be sent to.
Red Coral, and the graha it serves
Red coral, moonga, is the stone of Maṅgala — Mars, the graha of heat, courage, energy and the will to act. It is traditionally associated with physical vitality, decisiveness, and the confidence to take ground rather than wait for it.
It is also the stone most entangled with manglik fear. Because Mars placement drives the manglik discussion, coral is routinely sold to people who have just been told their marriage is at risk — which is exactly the state of mind in which nobody should be buying a gemstone. Whether coral helps a manglik chart depends on Mars's dignity and what it rules for that ascendant, not on the dosha label.
Mars is a functional malefic for several ascendants and a functional benefic for others — for Cancer and Scorpio ascendants it rules a kendra and a trikoṇa and is regarded as strongly supportive. That distinction is the whole recommendation, and it cannot be made from a sun sign.
Coral is organic rather than mineral, so it is softer and more fragile than the other eight, and it dulls with time and contact with oils and perfume. Dyed and reconstituted coral is widespread; genuine untreated material is priced accordingly.
How it is traditionally worn
Traditionally set in gold or copper and worn on the ring finger of the right hand, first on a Tuesday morning — Mars's day. Being organic, it is usually replaced periodically rather than worn indefinitely.
Who should be careful
Mars is a functional malefic for several ascendants, and coral amplifies heat and drive — in a chart already prone to anger, haste or inflammation, that is the opposite of helpful. Be especially wary of coral offered as a manglik remedy: the dosha has recognised cancellations, and being sold a stone in a moment of fear about your marriage is not a reading. Nobody should recommend moonga without your birth time.
Your chart decides — not your sign
A gemstone strengthens a planet. Whether strengthening Mars helps you depends on which houses it rules from your ascendant, how dignified it is in the sign it actually occupies, what aspects it, and which planetary period you are currently running. The same graha is a functional benefic for some ascendants and a functional malefic for others — so a stone chosen from a sun sign, a birth month or a shop counter is chosen without the information that decides it.
